Why is drug paraphernalia legal?
If drugs are illegal than why is
it so simple to access pipes? Why are they sold at stores? Isn't
that saying that it's okay to use drugs? That is one of my
biggest triggers is going into a store and seeing something like
that. I'm mad and would like to hear some feed back.

I agree, as a recovering meth
addict I too have seen pipes in the local corner store. They
come with roses in them like some gift. I too had a terrible
feeling in my gut and was appalled they were able to offer that
type of item in front of God and everyone. It seems our
politicians have let us down again. I'm in Texas and think that
maybe a public outcry would be an appropriate response to the
greedy, unconcern of those who would promote drug use so
flagrantly. |

I agree with you that drug
paraphernalia sold under the false pretense of "water pipes" and
other ridicules titles should not be legal.
It is one more step toward making it socially acceptable to use
drugs.
"But look! I got this cute pipe! It's got pink swirls, it's Sooo
cool!"
NOT.
If it makes you feel any better, everyone who quits smoking
cigarettes sees "paraphernalia" every time they go ANYWHERE.
For the longest time I was a "pay at the pump, or don't stop"
kind of gal because going inside a convenience store and seeing
the cigarettes all lines up was a huge trigger for me.
The guy who works at the convienient store near my house where I
would stop in for milk or bread would even ASK ME if I wanted
cigarettes after I'd quit. Cigarette smokers have a drug dealer
on every corner hawking their wares. |

Well, if it makes you feel any better, our
wares pale in comparison to those sold in Europe and other
continents.
In a small town outside of Amsterdam you can actually buy
cocaine and weed legally. I can't remember the name, but I think
it starts with a D.
Anyway, there will always be triggers, if our minds are still
connected to using. If our minds are filled, rather, with
lessons of recovery and hearts of faith, the triggers fade in
time. |

Went to Amsterdam in 04, you can
buy pot & hash in every "coffeeshop" & most soft drugs such as
shrooms & mescaline.
There is a limit to how much you can buy & how much you can have
on you. It is not technically legal but "overlooked" but
pickpockets they prosecute to the hilt! |

Just buying cigarettes at the
local discounted cigarette store I have seen pipes and the
people behind the counter seem oblivious -- I mean they can't
even count correct change or find the type of ciggies that you
want. But if someone came in and pointed to a pipe that they
wanted, you bet they could find it easily because there aren't
as many choices. Sad and a bit perturbed by that, |

We have a population of under
9,000 folks here... but there are stores in town that sell those
pipes.
The owners/operators are fully aware of WHY they are stocking
such products, so I have chosen to personally boycott the stores
that sell them.
I know they're not hurting much from the lack of my business...
but it's the principle! |

You dont need a pipe to smoke
it. You dont even need to smoke it... Should we outlaw aluminum
foil and Light
bulbs while we are at it? How bout straws and pens?
On the other hand as an ex drinker and ex cigarette addict...
I'd sure like to see those products vanish from availability.
And surely they don't need to advertise that crap 4 all to see
everywhere.

They have a chain of stores here in CA called DEMENTIA
That basically sell everything you need for the whole
experience, short of the chemicals involved in making it...
inc. pipes paters, bongs, butane, lighters, stamp bags by the
100... I suppose for stamp collectors. I'm surprised GLAD doen't
make a 1 gram sized package of 50 Zip-Lok Baggies. Or do they? |

absolutely right. Just as we have a choice of what TV shows to
watch, we also can choose which stores we frequent. I vow to not
go in the ciggie store that I mentioned. Lots of other stores
sell cigarettes but not pipes! Or maybe even I WILL QUIT SMOKING
altogether and boycot the tobacco companies -- tobacco is
probably the easiest thing to get addicted to -- but it doesn't
make you violent or call people names or make you stay out all
night or cheat on a husband or wife! (Always has been my excuse
when criticized for smoking). |
